Natural Hazard's Risk Markup Language (NRML) is a data model and XML-based data interchange format developed as part of the Global Earthquake Model (GEM) initiative. It is used in the communication layer between various components of the OpenQuake engine, serving as both an output and archive format for computations, as well as facilitating data exchange with external applications.
NRML is designed to leverage existing standards, such as the Geography Markup Language (GML) and QuakeML (a data model for seismology). As part of WP3 of Geo-INQUIRE project, plans are underway to extend support for multi-hazard and multi-risk assessments by incorporating additional natural hazards, such as floods and tsunamis. This extension will enable more comprehensive cross-hazard evaluations, promoting a holistic approach to geohazard and risk assessment.
The hazard.EFEHR web platform and web services are developed, maintained and hosted by the Swiss Seismological Service (SED) at ETH Zurich under the umbrella of EFEHR, in collaboration with the GEM Foundation and EPOS (European Plate Observing System).
