ESHM13 - Active Faults

The European Database of Seismogenic Faults (EDSF) is a compilation of fault sources deemed to be capable of generating earthquakes of magnitude equal to or larger than 5.5 and aims at ensuring a homogenous input to assess ground-shaking hazard in the Euro-Mediterranean area. Several research institutions within the SHARE project participated in this effort with the contribution of many additional scientists in the Euro-Mediterranean region. The EDSF database and website are hosted and maintained by INGV.

Datafiles used for Hazard Assessment

The fault sources have been used for the computation of hazard due to crustal seismicity. The fault sources were used in the Fault Source and Background (FSBG) model. The seismic activity is calculated from the information on the fault sources, however, only the MW≥6.5 are deemed to occur on the geometry of the fault sources, while M<6.5 occur throughout background sources, i.e. regions that include a system of fault sources.

The fault sources and their parameterization used in the hazard modelling contains all parameters needed for the computation (see Deliverable D6.6). Datafiles are provided in EPRI - vector file format.
